Police work with the individual who assaulted a healthcare worker in Nghe An

SKĐS - The individual verbally abused, insulted, threatened, and leaned over the reception counter to assault the female nurse...

On June 2, Friendship General Hospital of Nghe An issued a report regarding an incident in which a patient’s family member assaulted a healthcare worker on duty on the evening of May 31 at the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Specifically, at 23:52 on May 31, the Emergency Department of Friendship General Hospital of Nghe An admitted patient T.V.L. (born in 1972, residing in Nghi Kim commune, Vinh City, Nghe An) for emergency treatment.

After the patient was admitted, Dr. Phạm Tất Bách examined the patient, explained the patient’s condition, prescribed medication, and ordered clinical tests. At the same time, the patient’s family was instructed to go to the reception counter to complete the necessary administrative procedures for the patient.

At the reception counter, nurse N.T.A. received the documents and then instructed the patient’s family to wait in the designated waiting area outside, as per the hospital’s regulations. However, the family member did not comply, displayed an uncooperative attitude, and used offensive, insulting, and threatening language toward the healthcare worker.

At that moment, the female nurse continued to explain and requested the family member to wait outside so that medical staff could perform their duties. She also informed them that they would be notified when assistance was needed. However, the family member refused to comply, continued to verbally abuse, insult, and threaten, and then leaned over the reception counter, slapping nurse N.T.A. in the face. This caused her glasses to fall off, her left cheek to swell, and resulted in pain, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and psychological distress.

The incident significantly affected the health and mental state of the healthcare worker on duty, as well as severely impacted the hospital’s medical examination and treatment environment. The situation was only resolved with the intervention of the hospital’s security team.

The duty team then contacted the night-shift security for assistance, reported the incident to the hospital’s leadership, and notified the Nghi Phú Ward Police for support. At around 00:20 on June 1, the Nghi Phú Ward Police arrived at the hospital to handle the situation, but the individual had already left the premises.

Regarding patient T.V.L., the duty team examined the patient, conducted the prescribed clinical tests, and provided timely treatment according to the protocol. By around 2:00 AM on June 1, the patient’s abdominal pain had subsided, vital signs were within normal limits, and the family requested discharge procedures for the patient.

Currently, the hospital is continuing to coordinate with the Nghi Phú Ward Police and investigative authorities to verify and clarify the incident.

It is known that the individual who assaulted the female nurse is Trần Tuấn Anh (32 years old, residing in Hamlet 13, Nghi Kim Commune, Vinh City). Tuấn Anh is the son of the patient T.V.L. who was admitted for emergency care. The police have already worked with this individual.

Immediately after the incident, the hospital’s leadership compiled an incident report, requested the involved individuals and duty team to submit written accounts of the event, and instructed the Information Technology Department to extract and preserve security camera footage to support reporting and investigation when required.

Regarding the incident, on the morning of June 2, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) issued a document to the Chief of the Office of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee concerning the enhancement of security and safety in hospitals.
